History In The News: A Weekly History News Report

My Students

Students learn best when they create things and tell stories! With these materials students can create stories and share them with the world!

I teach in a classroom in Kentucky.

My students come from a diverse background that allows for many different perspectives on issues. All of them are creative in one way or another and all of them have skills that can contribute to producing educational materials.

My Project

Students in my classroom will use the camera and microphone to create News History. The students will write direct film and edit their own news cast about the time period we are studying. Imagine: a live report from the storming of the Bastille, an in depth hard hitting interview with Josef Stalin, A travel guide to medieval Europe. All of these projects can come to life with film and technology. Every two weeks students will produce a news report on the time period we are discussing. As student compile these news reports I will host them on my teacher web site for others to view and use. As we compile more and more news stories they will serve as a review for anyone who would like to watch them.

My students need a creative outlet.

Posters and brochures only take History so far. As students dig into material and create new content thy learn and retain more of the important skills and knowledge they need to be successful.
