My students need to be exposed to all different types of media and literature available in finding information about the past! This collection of books with help them!
Every unit explores a new culture, a new adventure. My students are amazed at how ancient civilizations lived. The things the people did not have, the things that their culture's invented that we now use today! My students LOVE Ancient Greece, especially the Spartans and how fierce they were!
My classroom is made up of 65% Latino students, 20% African American, 10% White and 5% Asian.
90% of these students are on free/reduced lunch programs. My school is very small with only one set of teachers per grade. I love teaching in a small school because we truly become a community and teachers get to know all students in the school.
My Project
As I stated previously, we have a very diverse classroom. These students are not exposed to as many resources as other schools, but books are one thing that can make a huge difference! Each unit I other a small selection of my own books, that I have individually purchased, and the students LOVE to borrow them and use them as their independent reading books. They later come in and tell me all the information that they learned and how amazing the people lived back then. It is truly amazing to see such excitement and outside learning that I wish I had more resources for MORE students to be able to borrow more books.
This project will make a HUGE difference because more students will be given the opportunity of borrowing books and becoming outside/independent learners.
These students will be exposed to more information and will learn what it's like to find out information on their own.
