Helping Create Math Success With New Supplies

My students need pencils, paper, dry-erase markers, and pens for correcting homework and completing class activities and homework. This would start the new semester!

My Students

Do you know what it feels like to live in poverty and come to school with limited supplies? Our school has several students of poverty, and getting the necessary supplies is very difficult. Your help would go a long way!

My students are 9th-12th graders with mostly 9th graders.

Our students come from many different backgrounds. Our school has over 80% free and reduced lunch students, and I teach a diverse group of students. At our charter college preparatory high school, students are required to wear a uniform to help minimize socioeconomic status issues. Some of our students cannot afford binders, paper, pencils, and many of the other basic school supplies necessary to be successful in high school. I have been able to provide all of the students with binders, but I am struggling to provide them with filler paper, pencils, and other basic supplies to increase their education. This would help us tremendously to improve the quality of our in-class activities and student success.

My Project

The pencils, paper, and dry-erase markers that have been requested will allow my students to have paper to have in their binders to allow them to take notes and complete their homework at a more successful rate. Many students are not able to take good notes because our school has a tight budget on paper, and I am not able to supply them with the paper they need to complete all of their work. They are often given extensions until I am able to supply them with resources, and it becomes a constant struggle to keep these students engaged. The dry-erase markers will be used to improve our in-class activities for practicing math problems and doing some formative assessments. We use individual dry-erase boards frequently, but since the end of the semester, all of the markers have died, and I do not have room in my math budget to buy enough markers for everyone. Your donation would go such a long way! Our students need these supplies to just be able to do the learning to graduate!

Our students are amazing young adults, and they are very motivated to attend college.

Many of our students will be the first in their families to go to college. Many of our students are from immigrant families, and they are working hard to provide for their families. Due to the nature of our students backgrounds, these supplies would not go unnoticed. As a teacher, I would be forever grateful to you for providing me the resources to be able to provide my students with the basic resources.
