My students need supplies, vinyl gloves and 3 colors of dye, to complete a school-wide project making tie-dye t-shirts in class colors to wear on Field Day to show their school/class pride.

My Students

As the art teacher at Brooklyn Middle School, I would like to offer my students a special project to end the year: One that would be a creative outlet for them, encourage individuality, yet bring them all together as a group/class creating a sense of school pride and togetherness.

Brooklyn Middle School is a very small urban district in the city of Brooklyn, Ohio.

Our students are bright and eager to learn and enjoy what our school is able to offer them in terms of the arts. My budget at Brooklyn Middle School (paid by student fees) allows me enough to give my students the basics throughout the year. I would love to be able to do a very special project with them to end the year, and do not have it in my budget to purchase these extra supplies.

My Project

I would like each child to make their own tie-dye t-shirt in their class color, personalize it, and wear it on "Field Day" (our last day of school) to show their school and class pride. I plan to have each student tie-dye their own shirt, then use sharpie markers to personalize and put their own unique and creative spin on it. In the end, each t-shirt will be unique, but with each class having the same color will encourage class unity and school spirit on the day we celebrate our last day together at the end of the year.

We are a very small school, and our building is very old.

We don't have the brightest or most beautiful surroundings on a daily basis, but the students brighten it up with their positive attitudes. School pride is something we struggle to create and I think that this artistic activity will bring the students together at the end of the year, showing off their class colors and coming together as group.
