Welcome to my Health Fitness classroom! My students love to be active and embrace any opportunity to learn new skills. Tennis is a great sport and the kids love it, but with tight budgets it's very difficult to stay up to date with the latest educational initiatives.
Playing sports and learning sports skills can open up many doors for my students in our urban, high-poverty area.
They can learn how to play competitively, go on various trips and even receive scholarships for college. It is my dream for all of my students to have the opportunity to learn a variety of sports as well as the athletic and social skills that are involved.
My Project
With Skillastics Tennis I will be able to expose my students to tennis in a more organized way. Tennis is a sport that is known to teach sportsmanship and gamesmanship, two key aspects of sports. Tennis is also a lifetime sport that my students can continue to play throughout their adolescence and into adulthood. Tennis Skillastics is a standards based fitness game that I can use in my classroom to engage my students in an excellent social activity while teaching them basic tennis skills. With this project I can introduce and reinforce cooperation, honesty, respect and responsibility. These are lifelong skills that are necessary to being part of a community and living a healthy life.
Seeing as our school is Title I, I have very limited funds to purchase new and exciting materials.
