My students need 'read to me' phones to use in reading groups so that they can improve their reading skills. They need book boxes to organize their materials.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Hello! I am Ms. Simmons. I am a first year Kindergarten teacher. I love learning and hope to instill that same love of learning in my students. I want to create a warm, inviting and comfortable classroom environment for all students. I believe that all of my students will be successful!
I teach at a Title 1 school.
This means that a large percentage of the students come from low income families and receive free or reduced rate lunch. All students receive free breakfast. Despite hardships that the students face, the school has a very positive spirit and sense of community.
My Project
I have requested "read to me phones" and book boxes. Read to me phones are a special type of phone which will be used in reading groups and in the library. Reading groups include 5-8 students which makes it hard for students to focus on their own reading. Reading phones help students focus and hear their voice at a more precise level. The phones also help students remain actively engaged. I am asking for 10 so that they can be utilized by students in the library and reading groups. These will help students improve literacy skills.
I have asked for book boxes which will be given to each child. My students have tables not desks and currently do not have a place to store their own materials. Book boxes will be used to store books from the class and school library and writing assignments. This helps students learn how to take care of their belongings and fosters independence. Many students in my class come from low income areas and may not have their own things.
This project will improve the classroom in many ways.
All of these items will help make the classroom a warm, inviting and comfortable place for all students. The phones will help students develop literacy skills by keeping students focused and actively engaged. The book boxes will give students their own special place in the classroom and foster independence and responsibility. I believe it is extremely important for students to have all of the necessary materials for success.
