Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The things I want to know are in books; my best friend is the man who'll get me a book I ain't read." Abraham Lincoln. My students need you to be their best friend by putting books in their hands.

My students are reading every day in class.

Many of them would not be considered "readers," but they are now asking me for the next book in a series or for a copy of a book that their friends have recommended. I hate having to tell them there is a waiting list for the book that they want.

My Project

I would like to provide students with the books when they want to read them. These books are the ones that currently have a waiting list or continue a series that they enjoy. My students are finding enjoyment in reading, and many are reading entire books for the first time in their lives. By reading, they are expanding their vocabulary, building the reading fluency, and enlarging their world views to include others.

If you can remember a time when you found something so engaging to read only to learn that you would have to wait in line for the next book in the series, you know what my students are experiencing.
