My students need earphones in order to all use Chromebooks at the same time. They need splitters in order to collaborate on group projects.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Each day, my students are eagerly waiting at my classroom door. One of their first questions they ask is if they can use the computers. Students love the technology we use in our room, especially creating presentations and listening to books. They even love their Personal Math Trainer videos!
My school is located in a small farming town in rural California.
We are a Title I school with many English Language Learners. My students are eager and enthusiastic learners who love to attend school. For many of them, school provides the main window to learning about the big world beyond our town. I love to walk to work every day, knowing that my students will be bouncing up and down at the door to our classroom, curious about the day's coming lessons and activities.
My Project
Technology is an amazing tool. My students are fortunate to have Chromebooks (small laptops) to use frequently for creating projects and listening to lessons and presentations. However, we lack one integral piece that would boost the impact of these tech tools. We have no earphones!
The students are eager to get started on several projects that I have introduced to them. Most of these projects involve inserting audio and video into presentations to demonstrate their learning about books, characters, science topics, math, and social studies. Other uses of our technology include listening to and watching math videos, customized to each child's needs. The students love listening to books read aloud on the laptops, too.
The problem with all these applications that involve sound is that the children can't hear their own laptop when 28 other students are also listening to presentations. For that reason, we need 30 sets of earphones and splitters for our classroom.
With your kind support, my students will be able to fully access technology that is available to them.
Because twenty-first century learning requires students to be familiar with a variety of technology tools, these students need to use the laptops frequently, and for a variety of purposes. Many of my students do not have computers, or access to the Internet, at home. Having functional technology (including earphones) at school provides the opportunity to level the playing field.
