My Students

Many of my students do not have access to technology such as laptops, tablets, or phones. Fortunately, our school was just awarded a 1:1 grant so now ALL students will have the opportunity to have access to technology, but we need headphones to be able to listen to the sound.

My students come from a low socioeconomic status.

All of the students that I teach have disabilities ranging all the way from learning disabilities to intellectual disabilities. Most of them are at least four years below their grade level. They are a wonderful group of individuals but have not had an easy life. They are often bullied and made fun of for being different. Our school is a school that does not have much parental support and in turn a lack of funding. Teachers are often spending their own money to make sure that the students have their supplies to get them through their academic day.

My Project

The materials I have requested will help to create a nice warm learning environment where students can go to use technology to foster learning. As with most teachers, I want to create a fun and inspiring environment rather than just having four blank walls. The rug will help to create a sense of color and fun while also distinguishing it as a specific area in the classroom. The headphones will be used in conjunction with their computers so that they can listen to learning material while not disturbing others.

The donations for this project will help to improve the learning atmosphere.

We are rapidly entering a constantly changing world of technology, and in education 21st century skills focus on integrating technology into our teaching. By providing students headphones they can access technology and improve their skills that will be necessary for them as they move forward in their education.
