Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Chemistry is meant to be experienced through engaging, colorful, hands-on experiments, not just with a gray pencil and white sheet of paper! However, our school lacks the funding and resources necessary to do most labs.

My Chemistry students are bright, hard working, and primed to take their education to the next level.

Since they have rarely had the opportunity to perform labs throughout their academic careers, hands-on experiments are a novelty that they relish and deeply benefit from.

My Project

With these resources, my students will be able to perform two quality, inquiry-based labs - one on the conductivity of solutions and the other on rates of reaction. This will teach my students indispensable life skills such as working as part of a group, thinking critically, and employing research-based methods in order to reach a conclusion.

In both college and the professional arena, my students will encounter questions and obstacles and rather than being fed the answer, they must take it upon themselves to find a solution, becoming de factor researchers.

By participating in inquiry-based lessons and group problem-solving activities, my students will learn critical thinking, group collaboration, and investigation skills, thus preparing themselves not only for success on their assessments, but also life after high school.
