My students have described our classroom as "embracing chaos". This is the place where their creativity is allowed to be free. They don't have to know all of the answers and they are allowed to explore and determine the questions.
These are gifted students in sixth, seventh, and eighth grade.
These students learn and retain quickly and require a curriculum that is more in-depth than the typical classroom. My students thrive with hands-on opportunities and the ability to collaborate with like minded peers. Our school is in a high poverty area where parents do their best but extras are definitely not possible.
My Project
My students will use the materials to collaborate with their gifted peers, to explore, invent, create, and problem solve. They will gain valuable robotics, invention, and electronics experience to further their skills in the area of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Makey Makey will allow my students to invent solutions to problems. They might invent something we adults don't even realize we need yet! My students will use Dash and Dot to explore coding and programming as they make their robot perform various tasks. Snap Circuits all enable my student to design a circuit, create it, and then trouble shoot problems. These opportunities provide real world challenges that keep students engaged and focused.
My students do not have the resources to purchase these products for use at home.
Gifted students learn very quickly and can innovate better than typical students. Our district has recently developed STEM academy at the high school level. Many of my students will choose this path and the materials here will help them be prepared for STEM at the high school level.
