Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 3rd grade in a very low preforming school in Southern California. Approximately 80% of the students are English learners. Hispanic, Somali and other African ethnic groups, and Vietnamese heritages are highly represented in the community. Approximately 95% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunches.

We will start a science unit in the spring about the life cycles of plants and animals. This can be a very difficult topic to teach without a lot of hands on materials to make the learning more realistic. Simply reading from a textbook alone can not make learning happen.

We need hands on resources to help them learn how plants and animals grow, reproduce, and change depending on their environments. With these resources, will my students be able to see what they are learning but they will also have the chance to use the information we have learned to try a variety of experiments to help increase their learning.

Your donation will make it possible for my students to become the eager little scientist that I know they can be with the proper information and tools.
