This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our science scores are really low....not anymore! With your help we can help Kindergarteners get the foundation in science that they deserve!

Our state recently funded our district with all-day Kindergarten.

This has been such a blessing for the kids we serve. Our free and reduced lunch rate is in the high 90's which shows the poverty level we are at. One of our district's lowest scores is science. Now that we have all-day Kindergarten, we feel the urge to give our students the strong foundation in science that they deserve. When we taught half-day Kinder, we didn't really have time to teach science the way it should be taught. Now that we have the time, we don't have the hands-on materials to teach it.

My Project

The greenhouses and the hands-on plant center will help students understand about plants and the parts of a plant, which is our state standard. My idea is to have kids plant a seed in their greenhouse and observe the process. They will be recording their observations in their science journal. Meanwhile, I will be reading and teaching them about plants using a variety of ways to reach each child. During choice time, I will have the plant center out at the science discovery center. Students will be able to "play" scientist and explore while learning at the same time!

Science is very important in our lives.

Without it, we wouldn't have modern medicine and the technology that we have today. I hope that with these tools, we will inspire little Kindergarteners to someday be scientist and find the cure for something!
