To understand the world we live in today we must know our history. To live our history, learn from our history and use our history for a better tomorrow." This is the mission of You Can Live History and our hope for the students we teach.
We are incredibly fortunate to work with a group of imaginative students who thrive in experiential learning settings.
However, as a Title I school (65%+ free and reduced lunch), students are faced with many challenges, specifically those that accompany poverty. As a result, the vast majority of our students are unable to participate in these types of learning experiences outside of school. We seek to change that for our students, striving to provide academic experiences that will inspire their learning both now and in the future.
My Project
Perfectly complementing our Colorado State Standards for history, our students will participate in an authentic Revolutionary War reenactment. Students will be provided uniforms, equipment, muskets, cannons, and training. Committed to the safety of our students in all areas, this training includes drills, music, and storytelling authentic to the time of the Revolutionary War. On battle day, students will reenact battles of the Revolutionary War. This experience will allow our students to see the triumphs and failures of both sides in an incredibly authentic way creating a learning experience they will not soon forget!

We know that this project will open the eyes of our students to the reality of our country's beginning in ways that books, however glorious, never could.
This project will, undoubtedly light a fire of curiosity in their minds as we strive to create a community of passionate, lifelong learners in our school.
