This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are motivated and working hard to improve their English skills!

More than 50% of my students are classified as English Language Learners.

In addition to that, I teach our third through fifth grade, intensive, English Language Development class. These kids are a motivated and hardworking population that want to learn and improve their English speaking skills.

My Project

Poetry is an important resource for English development. It helps students to recognize sounds and patterns and it's just plain fun! In addition, many students lack the confidence in their English skills to project their voices to a level in which they can be heard. A microphone is a fun and beneficial tool for developing their speaking skills.

A large majority of our students are on free and reduced lunch, and come from low income families.

They do not have access to a lot of fun and engaging resources at home, which is why I am making it my mission to bring these things to the classroom. They are an extremely grateful bunch of students and this will greatly impact their ability to speak and understand English.
