My Students

Being 1 student in a kindergarten class of 27 is hard enough but trying to learn in a small and very packed classroom can be a huge struggle.

My students are from a high poverty neighborhood in Michigan where 100% of our school qualifies for free and reduced priced lunches.

The families at my school struggle to get by each day but the students that come to school are hardworking, enthusiastic, caring, and excited to learn.

My Project

My students need chair pockets. Having these chair pockets will help our students to stay organized and allow us to use our very tiny classroom to the best of its potential. Right now we have milk crates that we have been storing books, writing journals, and supplies in. With pockets hanging behind each chair, for each individual students supplies, it will free up space which we will be able to use to do more hands on and interactive learning activities and give students more space to learn and spread out. It will also teach students to take good care of the things in their pocket, to keep them nice, treat them with respect, and be proud of how neat things are in the classroom. Being "proud" and showing "respect" are 2 of our schools values and things we strive to promote in our classroom everyday.

Can you remember how exciting it was to be in school for the first time?

For many of my students, school is their home and one of the only places they feel safe and happy. Please help my students "Get Organized in a Little Classroom" with Chair Pockets so that we may use the minimal space we have, not to store our supplies but to learn!!
