My Students

When you read you do not want to be sitting at a table. You want to be comfy. You might want to curl up on a couch or stretch out on a bean bag. Kids need places around the room where they can develop a love for reading.

We are moving to first grade next year.

This is the year students really learn how to read. Kids need to feel safe and comfortable. These boys and girls have gone through more in the past 10 months than many can imagine. Almost a year ago, an EF5 tornado destroyed more than 60% of our students' homes along with the neighborhood that surrounds our school.

My Project

To develop a love for reading students need places around the classroom they can go to explore books and information. For our classroom it would be amazing to have a mini couch and chair for students to curl up in. Students could feel like they were at home instead of at school. The bean bags and pillows would also be a great asset in making our classroom more homey. The book bins will help us to keep all of our books organized and easily accessible.

This furniture will make kids feel safe, secure, and comfortable.

Students can find a nice place and concentrate on their reading. Reading is the basis of all skills. Kids need to love reading and be able to do it well. That is why we want to start at a young age fostering a love for reading.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
