This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My students need these 13 string art packets to explore how geometry is used to create artwork. This will begin our lesson on how geometry is used outside of the classroom.

"Always making excellence a habit!" This is my class motto. My students love geometry because we go beyond the scope of the textbook and make it an experience. Our lack of resources and funds have made it hard to do some projects, but my students are excited about this one. Please help us!
I teach 6 geometry classes.
My students are inner city high school aged kids. Many of them hated math and school before my class. There are not very many examples of success in their communities. I inspire them to be great. They crave assignments which allow them to use creativity. So, I try and find "out-of-the-book" activities as lesson openers.
The string art packet has the basic materials needed to create a picture using straight lines. This project helps students understand that geometry can be applied in all facets of life. The string and boards we need are included in the packet, and the extra string is needed because I have only ordered enough for a class set.
I always try to capture my students with an engaging project or assignment when introducing a lesson.
High school students want to know how the lessons will be used in their futures and why they need to do things. This lesson will form in them a desire to use geometry and a way to see it in their everyday lives.
