My Students

If you had the opportunity to create your own world what would you make? This is just the opportunity that I am trying to give my students.

My students are video game lovers.

They talk about it all the time. In the last few years I have seen a shift, particularly among the boys, in students wanting to go to school to make games. We are a rural, Title 1 school, and we serve a mixture of low economic families and families that work at or with a small college that is literally across the street.

My Project

It is my goal to start an after school video game design club using the PlayStation 3 and the game Little Big Planet 2. Students will create a pitch based on one of two games in the Little Big Planet franchise. We will then meet once or twice a week in the afternoon and work to make students visions a reality. Students will be responsible for designing their own level. Then we will work to figure out how they can construct it using the creation tools in the game Little Big Planet. Students will then refine their creations building to a point where their work is refined enough to publish them on the Little Big Planet network. At the end of the year students will present their work in a showcase for the school.

This project will provide my students an opportunity to generate experience and gain interest in a field that they already desire to know more about.

They will research, design, construct, improve, publish, and present their own work. It is my intention to inspire them to work towards a long term goal by creating a foundation for them to build on.
