From Our Little House in the Big Woods to Yours

My students need 10-15 copies of 5 Laura Ingalls Wilder chapter books in order to capitalize on their interest in history.

My Students

Laura, Ma, Pa,and Nellie Olsen all conjure memories of days gone by. My second graders LOVE The Little House on the Prairie chapter books! They immerse readers in the history and culture of our country and excite young learners. This series makes history come alive.

The enjoyment of reading promotes fluency, comprehension, vocabulary development and future success in school.

As a teacher of second graders in a small, K – 12 school district, in rural New York state; I would love to support and enhance my curriculum with multiple copies of five titles from the Laura Ingalls Wilder chapter book series.

My Project

My second grade curriculum is filled with many different interdisciplinary units of study. During the course of the year we study everything from Johnny Appleseed to Zoology. In each of these units of study, we use children's literature books (trade books) to help the students acquire new information and garner a love of learning. Many of the books that I use are yard sale purchases, library discards, or otherwise inexpensive finds but, still good literature. Your generosity and support would enhance my curriculum and pique my students desire to absorb everything they can about history!

Making learning come alive is the greatest way to inspire children to develop a life long love of learning!
