Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Have you ever heard the expression, "seen in a new light?" Have you ever had the experience of actually seeing something "in a new light," the experience of understanding something in a new and different way? My little friends need materials to help them to see things in a new and different way.
My students are Pre-Kindergarten students who are all from low-income families.
The majority of my students, or I like to call them, my little friends, come from non-English speaking families. These precious children have had very few early learning experiences, which is why they have earned a placement in my classroom. Each of them are very curious about the world around them, and enjoys learning through hands-on experiences and exploration.
My Project
Having translucent materials, like different types of xrays, prism blocks, and widgets, will give my little friends experiences of seeing how light can pass through various types of objects. Not only will my little friends get to have hands-on experiences manipulating these materials, but my little friends will also get to see how different colors can mix when light passes through them, in addition to gaining basic concepts of shapes and colors. They will gain knowledge of the difference between translucent and opaque materials.
By donating to this project, you are helping to provide my little friends hands-on experiences with basic concepts of light and dark, in addition to how light can change the appearance of everyday materials.
