For the Love of Language!

My students need 4 iPad minis so they can use language apps to improve their English language skills. For example, they can practice fluency using a voice record app!

My Students

Some of my students have not yet had a chance to discover how to use an iPad or even how to turn on a computer! It is my desire as their ELL teacher to give them opportunities to experience the excitement and engagement of using a powerful learning tool such as an iPad mini.

The students in my classroom include 4th-7th graders with varying language levels.

The ESL student population has increased rapidly within our school district and several of my students are new to the country with very limited English language skills. We currently do not have an organized curriculum to offer our students, so I want to be able to instruct them using various activities and forms of technology. It is extremely important I differentiate within my classroom, so I have students work in smaller groups for more individualized instruction. I feel iPad minis would be an excellent tool to help them reach a successful language proficiency level! My main focus within my classroom is to have students practice their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. The use of iPad minis would incorporate all of these areas into their instruction , while motivating them to practice English and become proficient in learning the English language.

My Project

Because our school district has very limited curriculum for our ESL students, I want my students to discover and experience the power of technology and how it can help them learn the English language. Students need to be actively engaged in their learning and the instructional possibilities are endless with all of the iPad apps that are available for students to utilize in a classroom setting. Some of the learning apps I intend to use will help students with fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, reading, and writing. For example, I plan on using a voice record app so students can practice reading a passage in English, then they can listen back to it and determine where they can improve their pronunciation. There are aIso several great apps with leveled books. In addition, I would also like to have students make storybooks and presentations using various apps that they can share with the rest of the class. This will help them become confident while speaking in front of others

My project will make a difference in the lives of my students and I'm excited for them to get started on this journey!

They will finally have an opportunity to experience the use of technology, while learning English in a fun, exciting, and engaging way. This will definitely have an impact on their futures and how they are able to express themselves to other people. Learning the English language proficiently is something that will affect their successes in high school as well as their futures.
