My Students

It's 2012 and kids are technological geniuses. The students in my drama class at Florida Pitt Waller only have our stage and any hand made props or costumes that we can scrounge together. I want to help them to become experts in drama and technology and start making movies!

I teach at a school in Denver which services almost 1,000 students from Kindergarten to 8th grade!

While this is an urban school, we are at about 80% of the students receiving free and reduced lunch, but we are very lucky to provide our students with drama, music, computers, library, art and gym. They are very dramatic in my class, in a good way! They love to tell jokes, tell stories, create characters and write plays. They are very funny and creative and deserve the world!

My Project

Flip Cams are small, easy to use video recorders that can quickly hook up to computers or TV monitors to view what has just been recorded. They are designed to be very kid-friendly, and I am prepared to teach all my students how to use them kindly! A lot of the kids already know how to use these, so hopefully they would learn all the extra features to enhance their films.

This project is important to me because I am a first year drama teacher, and I am building a curriculum based on what the kids want to do.

They want to make videos and involve their art with technology because they are kids of the 21st century! They are good at it, and I want to empower them to use technology and art as a creative outlet.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
