My Students
Do you remember what it was like to sit all day in a hard chair while trying to keep your brain focused on your learning? The time would seem to go by so slowly and by the end of the day, your back would ache and you would be tired of sitting. This is even harder for students who struggle with focus.
My students live in a rural part of the country.
Many come from poverty stricken home lives. Less than 50% of the students are reading on grade level. Despite their home lives and their deficits, they come to school with a positive attitude.
Several of my students struggle staying focused on their work during the day. When I allow them to get up and pick a spot to work at independently, they work much better. I have a few options in my room, but not a lot so several students end up on the floor. I want all of my students to have the opportunity to sit on something comfy if they choose to.
During small groups, my low students struggle to stay focused on the task we are working on. Using stability balls at my small group table will allow the students to have some movement and still be able to focus and participate in the small group. When the body is engaged, the brain is engaged. I want my students to gain more from small group instruction.
My Project
I am requesting 5 stability balls, 1 set of soft seats and 1 set of comfy pillows to use for alternative seating during independent and small group work. With these stability balls, pillows, and cushions, my students will be able to have several options of locations they may go to in the room to work independently. During my small group instruction, my energetic students will be able to bounce their way through the instruction. They will bounce their way in to so much more learning!
This project is important because it will give my students the opportunity to choose different items to sit on during independent work time and to use stability balls during small group instruction!
My students will be able to focus better and therefore learn more! We cannot do it without your help!
