My students live in a rural part of the country. Many come from poverty stricken home lives. Less than 50% of the students are reading on grade level. Despite their home lives and their deficits, they come to school with a positive attitude. My third graders are very eager to become better readers this year. We work really hard on improving our reading skills all year long. We take part in the Daily 5 program which has shown great improvement.
