Finance: Making a Change

My students need Asus Eee Pad with docking station, HP printer with ink, The Allowance Game CD, and Money CD to learn how to save, budget, and spend money.

My Students

Remember the first time you did a small job and earned a few dollars? Although my students are in the third grade, they do odd jobs to earn money. I want to show them how to make wise decisions when they purchase items.

My students come mostly from low-income families in eastern Kentucky.

They have very little spending money for extras at school, but they are eager to do small jobs to earn money. With money comes decisions, like should I spend it now or save it for something tomorrow.

My Project

I want my students to learn how to set a goal, make a budget, and save money. I am requesting an Eee Pad Transformer tablet with docking station and a HP printer with ink. I will be using a program from Edhelper and the students will learn how to write checks along with balancing a checkbook. The Allowance Game and the Money CD games will be used during whole group instruction using a Smartboard. All of these materials will be placed in a "Let's Learn About Money" Center in the classroom.

Learning to save money should begin at an early age to develop lifelong financial skills.
