My students are in dire need of a library that is engaging, warm, and stocked with books. Our library should be the heart of the school, which will capture students interest in reading and get them excited about books. I am going to stock the shelves, and decorate our library to make it great.
Our students are hard working and really want to succeed.
Most of them come from impoverished families who are not literate in their native language or English. Our students want to learn, want an education, and want to go to college someday. Our school is filled with dedicated teachers, students and support staff. Most schools get money through fundraisers, but sadly our fundraisers usually make very little money since our parents don't have much money. Over 90% of our students are on free or reduced priced lunch. Our population is mostly Latino, although we have over 58 languages spoken at our school!
My Project
Students will be able to walk into a library that is warm and inviting. They will have the best books to choose from that are high interest and engaging. Our students will be able to relax on new seats and enjoy reading a great book. Our library will be decorated with a nature theme to promote relaxation, calmness and warmth. We are excited to be able to offer our students the same kind of library environment that most schools have.
The donations will help decorate the library, give students comfortable and updated places to read, and give our students the same accessibility to popular, high interest books, as other schools get.
Our students will be able to be excited about library time, checking out books, and hopefully light the fire of desire to become avid readers for the rest of their lives.
