Students today are facing greater challenges than we did 10-20 years ago. Technology is the forefront in our lives as well as education. To succeed in society today, students need to be provided the resources to be proficient with these tools. As educators, it is crucial to keep our eyes on technology!
As both a parent and a teacher, I feel like I play a huge role in the lives of children.
My 3rd grade class is composed of 26 eager minds. We are honored to be residents of a small community where the parents are involved and concerned about the progress of their children. We work closely together to provide a positive learning experience both at school and home. In the past 18 years, I have seen the impact that technology has played in our classrooms. We no longer have blackboards, the majority of our lessons are taught using a Promethean board. When I first started teaching, computers were only used for enrichment. Now it is constant in our daily learning. During Reading and Math centers, students work on programs to enhance and reinforce class lessons. I am able to monitor a student's progress with the use of programs that measure their advancement in Reading and Math. Our school is a big advocate of AR testing, and our students rise to the challenge. I have witnessed firsthand student growth in learning through the use of computers and technology.
My Project
By providing 1 new computer needed to inspire and motivate my students, I feel they will strive to perform on a higher level. With the new PARCC assessment being put into place, students will need to feel at ease working on a computer and accessing different programs. In class, they will also have information at their fingertips to complete research projects, work on enrichment programs, and publish final products of their work. In turn, this will provide them the skills needed to perform in the work place today.
My computers are quickly aging and have slowed down in the past eight years.
To provide the tools my students need, the systems will need to be replaced. It will make it harder to address the needs of my students. With your assistance, we can keep on rolling! Students will be provided with the tools they need to succeed in the classroom. With your help, anything is possible!!
