Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Technology has changed our world! Today, students are plugged in to cell phones, mp3 players, Facebook, and Twitter. By providing my students with camcorders to record middle school events, our school newspaper will now be plugged in as well! Important school information will be at their fingertips!

As with every student, my students have unlimited potential.

However, because of budgeting restraints and living in a high poverty area, this limitless resource is often not discovered. My students believe in a world that is fair and treats everyone as an important individual. Yet, life doesn't often treat them in this way. By bringing in technology to the classroom and allowing students to use it to impact their world, I hope to help them unlock the door to their limitless potentials.

My Project

As the adviser for the school newspaper, I have realized that a quarterly print edition just isn't the way to reach students of the 21st century. My hope is that by providing two camcorders to students, they will be able to record events that are important to their lives. These videos and photos will be posted to a school newspaper Facebook page for immediate viewing. Community events will also be linked to the page so that students are expanding their understanding that their school is part of a bigger community.

My students create their news every day.

For them to be able to instantly see what a difference they are making in the school, district, and community is amazing. My hope is that this project will unleash their vast potential and lead them to dreams they didn't know they had.
