My Students

Imagine going to the store in search of a magazine or newspaper that will tell you the latest and greatest happenings only to discover they are all five years old or uses words to big and complicated for you to understand. That is exactly what my students are experiencing but you can change that.

I teach 32 curious fourth graders reading and science.

Every single one of my students have turned in multiple notes to me with questions about different places and events that are happening around the world. They attend an "A" rated school in a very rural community.

My Project

I am requesting two different classroom magazine subscriptions that specifically include articles on current world events and science discoveries. These magazine are also at the perfect reading level for my students. Once we receive the magazines my students will practice summarizing and presenting the articles to the class as a part of our weekly current events report in addition to connecting the articles to what we are learning in class about science and social studies. The students will practice reading maps, tables, and diagrams

This project will allow my students to learn about what is happening in our world right now and will also allow them to practice their reading and comprehension skills while learning about social studies for the very first time.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
