This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My biggest goal for these Honors Biology students is to prepare them, not only for the state assessments, but for success in future (AP and college) science classes. One of the major challenges is preparing them for the literacy and study skills demands of a college level science course.
My students attend an urban vocational high school, where over 80% of students receive free and reduced lunch.
Students study a trade as well as traditional curriculum. As vocational students, they learn best through hands-on experiences, and love labs in their Honors Biology class.
My Project
My students love to read interesting things and have discussions. It is my goal to challenge them with reading materials, and engage them in discussions that relate to their everyday lives and the world at large. Reading "The Hot Zone" will cover many Biology topics as well as current events. Students will read, analyze, connect, discuss and debate the books this year.
We want to provide our students with an in-depth Biology experience and need help getting the required books!
We are preparing future scientists for college and beyond--we want them to be able to meet the literacy demands of college courses and be engaged and literate citizens. Thank you in advance for your partnership!
