My Students

Finding ways to keep the students engaged is always a challenge! By providing them fun and educational materials on their level, I have found I can keep them engaged and learning, without them complaining about it.

I am the Intermediate EBD teacher for our school.

I work with students in grades 3-6 who have emotional behavior disabilities that keep them from being out in the general education classrooms full time. Our main goal is to teach our students the strategies needed to control their behaviors and eventually go back out into the gen ed classroom. One way we do this, is we gradually get them back into the classroom and into their own grade level. In 5th grade, I work with another teacher who takes my students in addition to hers and at times we both even teach a lesson. Our school is a Title 1 school where 70% of our students receive free/reduced lunch. We are always looking for creative ways to enhance our students learning, yet do not always have the funds to do so, so we look to Donors Choose to help us with that.

My Project

I am requesting a set of Studies Weekly Social Studies readers that are aligned to the common core standards. Often times, social studies is not an easy subject to teach or hold their attention with. Through these colorful and engaging weekly magazines, the students will be able to cover all of the common core standards, while enjoying their learning. They provide stories, pictures, maps, graphs, and a fun game at the end of every lesson. These will be perfect for whole group as well as small group lessons. As well, they will make for a great way to round out teaching the standard for that week.

Sometimes, seeing a huge textbook full of information is scary and stressful.

By providing the students with a shortened magazine filled with information, colorful pictures, graphs, maps, and engaging activities, the students will be more excited to dive into the material.
