Giving my students the opportunity to enhance their learning through the use of technology would be a wonderful experience for the 24 students in my classroom. There are so many wonderful literacy and math apps available to engage children in their learning that I would love to share with my class.
I have a very diverse group of loving 4th grade students who always seem to see the best in everyone.
They are very curious and eager to explore new topics in all areas of study. Like most kids, my class learns best in small groups where they are given the opportunity to share their thinking and ideas with their peers. Giving them the opportunity to use iPads and the apps available to explore their world would be an amazing experience for them, most of which do not have access to that type of technology in their own homes. Our county's curriculum is becoming more and more technology centered and our school has one computer lab, and our classroom has one student computer. Putting iPads in our classroom would give each child the opportunity to use technology on a daily basis. In a technology-driven world there are countless resources on-line to help us learn and I want to be able to open that door for my students.
My Project
I would love to incorporate iPads into our Daily 5 center. Daily 5 is a routine we have during our reading/writing block where students complete 5 tasks: Read to Self, Read to Others, Writing, Vocabulary/Word Work, and Listening to Reading. I can use the iPads for any and all of those tasks. Scholastic has a great eBook app that I could download books for students to read on the iPads. My lower readers and ESOL students can use this technology to listen to books being read aloud. There are also countless apps that could be downloaded for students to practice vocabulary and word skills as well as reading comprehension. These iPads not only prove to be invaluable during our reading block but could also be loaded with math apps for students to use during math time. These apps can help my lower students with basic fact practice and my higher students with more challenging math problems. iPads could be used in any and all subjects throughout the entire school day.
Your donation would make a world of difference to the students in my class.
By allowing them the opportunity to use this type of new technology we are sending them the message that we believe in them and value their education. We are teaching them that learning is not only extremely important but that it can also be fun. We are showing them that we care about them enough to want to provide the best opportunities for them.
