Engineering a Robotic Chieftain with MakerBot!

My students need a MakerBot Replicator 2 so we can rapid prototype parts for our robotic teams and pre-engineering classes.

My Students

At the end of the year I hope that my students are ready to accept the challenge of seeking a degree in a STEM related field such as Engineering or Architecture.

The students at our school are hard working and intelligent.

They come from rural families and have a lot of practical knowledge. They come to my class each day ready to learn something new about the engineering design process, about the challenges that engineers must compete with when designing something new, about the forces that engineers must account for when building a sound structure, or about how they can make their robotic solutions to a real life design challenge better.

My Project

If we receive a MakerBot academy bundle it will allow my students to see their ideas and work take physical form! Students will be able to rapid prototype parts for their robots, such as spacers to help balance axle shafts, a mounting base for an articulated arm, or initial design of a part they hope to have machined. My engineering students will also use this machine to print designs they have created in Inventor, such as puzzle cubes, trains, or product innovations.

Receiving the donations needed to secure a MakerBot will allow students to experience the engineering design process from initial design and concept generation all the way to a completed, physical prototype that they can hold and manipulate.
