My Students

Doing work at the desk is overrated. I would love for my kids to have more engaging centers, and to be able to fluently multiply and divide. I have multiple centers, and it is a challenge to keep them engaged in the centers as I have limited resources. "The only way learn math, is to do math" Paul H

I have 30 students total.

All of my students love to be interactive, have lots of energy, but it is hard to provide engaging activities with what little I have. They love a challenge, and being challenged with things like minute math! They appreciate what materials I have made for them, but eventually they tire from the center activity since they soak in so much information. My school is close to being a Title 1 school, but because we are not Title 1, we do not get the resources to help or the funding to buy resources.

My Project

All of the materials will go towards centers, and fun interactive games that we can do as a whole group. I like to test my students on how fast we can go through the multiplication tables (all the way through 12 x 12) and write it on the board so they can attempt to beat their time the next day. They would absolutely love I Have, Who Has, and have played it in a previous grade. All of my students will become fluent in multiplication, division, and algebraic operations for the upcoming state test as well as prepare for 4th grade. Having the real-world problems in a center will be great for my students to relate to real-world problems (as it states). It would give them a chance to use their minds on something other than math, and apply it to solve the problem. It would also help them get ideas to create their own problems when it becomes time.

My students will not only learn so much from the manipulatives and center activities, but they will retain the information in a meaningful way.

Creating a way for students to have fun while learning makes it meaningful, and they will in turn retain more information.
