Encouraging Reading with Technology

My students need 2 Kindle Fires and cases to encourage them to read and show that reading can be exciting.

My Students

With the ever evolving technology in today's world, more students are becoming visual learners. They are unable to truly enjoy learning from a paper book. My students crave more stimulation in becoming engaged learners and readers. The Kindles will help encourage them to becoming true readers!

For my students, having technology and even extra reading material at home is a luxury.

A majority of my 22 students receive free and/or reduced lunch and also receive weekend food backpacks. The students come to school from various types of homes but most lack the necessities of having a computer, Internet, or cable. In the classroom, I mostly use technology to teach and the students learn best from the lessons that are taught this way. Having hand held technology that is targeted towards their learning will encourage them to have a love for learning and reading.

My Project

My students are required to pass an online reading test to pass 2nd grade. One of their biggest challenges in passing the test is reading the material off the computer screen. Using the Kindles will greatly help them practice their ability to read material from a computer screen so they can focus on their comprehension. By using the large selection of Kindle Books, I will be able to find books that are specific to their interest, Lexile, and maturity levels.

By donating to my project, you will be making a positive impact on the lives of 22 students that greatly need an outlet to help them find a love of learning and reading.

They will be able to use the technology to gain the confidence needed in becoming true readers!
