How to make Earth Day a special learning experience? Have fun reading with a friend by reading The Lorax by Dr. Seuss!

I teach an inclusive elementary engineering class at a rural school and 98% of my students now come from poverty.

500 plus students come through my classroom once a week. Many of my students are learning English and understand how important literacy is to work success. School can be a real drag for students who don't excel academically so it is important to me to engage all learners. This book is engaging, rigorous, and perfect for a special Earth Day lesson.

My Project

I envision students partner reading with a friend. I chose the book The Lorax because Earth Day is right around the corner and this book encourages students to critically think and discuss environmental topics. I have also requested the audio version of the book so we will listen to the book being read as well.

Students reading this book together will allow me to encourage critical thinking about our environment.

Your donations will provide my classroom with 13 beautiful copies of the hardcover book The Lorax for students to share and 1 copy of the audio CD. 500 plus students will have access to this book this year and for many years to come.
