Early Writers

My students need pencil grips, journals and sentence strips.

My Students

Coming into first grade is exciting but can be overwhelming. The pressure to be able to write can be a lot to handle at 6 years old. Taking away some of that pressure can produce wonderful results!

I teach first grade in a Title 1 public school where we have almost half of our students coming from economically disadvantaged homes.

My students are of mixed ability levels with different learning styles. They are excited to learn to write but have not yet learned how to make a complete sentence. Many of them have a hard time holding a pencil correctly.

My Project

There are many steps in learning to write. The transition from using a color crayon to holding a pencil correctly can be hard. These materials will guide my students through the process of writing. The pencil grips will start them on the correct path of learning to hold their pencil correctly. The colored sentence strips help guide the student step by step in the writing process. They are able to visually see which word is a noun, verb, adjective by using different colors in the process. Having their own journals to write their precious stories will be a lifetime keepsake.

Students must be efficient writers to progress in school.

Writing is a lifelong skill. With these materials my children will learn to write their thoughts on paper and take command of written communication.
