My Students

Students have a need to improve their skills in Algebra. The dry erase boards give them the ability to represent their response to questions quickly and easily. This allows feedback to be given more quickly and effectively. Students may then adjust their response and make another attempt.

I teach math and Algebra topics to approximately 100 8th grade students.

Our school has an enrollment of about 600 students. The school has been classified recently as Title 1. The school has a diverse student body and is located in a suburban but somewhat rural portion of Shelby County Tennessee.

My Project

Teaching and learning depends on providing the teacher and student the means to effectively communicate and receive reinforcing feedback from one another. Teachers depend on the responses of students to know what and how a student is thinking and how they respond to a prompt or question. In mathematics, the precision, ease and clarity of the student's response is facilitated by the dry erase boards for two reasons: 1) students enjoy drawing on them and 2) the teacher can read clearly the individual responses because they allow for larger and quicker drawing or writing through the use of dry erase markers and an eraser.

The ability to use dry erase boards with a Cartesian coordinate system on one side and a plane white board on the other provides a mechanism that saves time and gives greater clarity to whether student's mastering a skill on an ongoing basis.
