Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Can you imagine being in a drum group but not having enough drums and you're the one who has to sit out and watch everyone else play? It's good to learn how to share and to take turns. But it's really hard to learn to work together as a team musicians if you don't have an instrument to play.

My students are from a Title 1 school.

Kindergarten through 5th grade. Very low income, many immigrants, and many fractured families. Their parents cannot afford to music lessons, music instruments or to take them to live music performances. So the only music experience they receive that involves hands on playing is in the school music program.

My Project

I started using hands on music instruments when I discovered my students participated more fully when they did more than sing. They really love to play the drums. And I use the drums a lot in all of my music classes (over 700 students!). We learn to play together, express ourselves, listen and complement our playing with others. But we also learn Respect, Focus and Teamwork. There is a tremendous need for our future leaders to learn to solve problems, respect authority, work with others and be personally responsible. I can do that with music and drums!

You donation of 2 drums will help me help over 700 students between kindergarten and 5th grade work on Listening, Focus, Respect, Complement and Teamwork.

And we learn about different kinds of music from all over the United States and other countries. We never know what these kids will do with the skills and ideas they learn from your donation and my music program.
