My job as a teacher is to inspire my students and prepare them for jobs that have yet to be conceived. I continue to learn in order to package the information my students will need for tomorrow.
Many of my students come from an “at risk” environment.
Our school is located in a remote location in the desert (near the Grand Canyon) where 94% of the student body is under the assisted meal program (breakfast and lunch daily). Many of our students ride the bus 45 minutes to 1 hour a day to school (each way). Due to the remote location, student socialization is extremely important. This drone project would enhance STEAM standards while providing my students with the ability to solve challenging assignments in a team environment.
My Project
This drone project will be able to inspire my students in various educational disciplines. STEAM – Science Technology Engineering Art Math – is a large part of our curriculum. Students will be challenged with real-world problems while meeting many of our academic standards. This marriage of the real-world problems and academic standards will provide a bridge from academia to real life technological solutions.
Specific applications of the drone program will include, but not be limited to, aerodynamics of a foil (Science), computer programming (Technology), drone capabilities and limitations (Engineering), photography and map drawing which will empower students through art (Art) and spatial relationships (Math).
This classroom will improve through this generous donation by providing my “at risk” students with up-to-date technology and inspiring them to push themselves to their personal limits.
It will also provide students a way to interact with each other and improve their socialization skills through team building projects.
