I believe that through knowledge and discipline, financial peace is possible for all of us." - Dave Ramsey. I want to have technology available in my classroom on a daily basis so I can teach my students financial literacy. This in turn will help make their financial dreams a possibility.
My students are a diverse group of students with some students speaking English as a second language, some with learning disabilities and others that are achieving beyond grade level expectations.
More than seventy-five percent of my classroom is on free or reduced price lunch and do not have access to technology at home. Even with the obstacles they face, they are a motivated group of kids with hearts of gold.
My Project
We will be setting up a classroom economy and running a store throughout the year. My students will start the project by reading books about money. They will have to price all items and learn to make transactions. They will use the bins and supplies to create and stock the store using toys and school supplies. They will also be conducting research projects given a $1,000,000 budget. They will have to buy a house, cars, pay for furniture, daycare, etc. This will help them understand the need to be financially secure, as well as the importance of continuing their education so they can have jobs to cover their life expenses. They will purchase items from our "Dolphin Depot" using Dolphin Dollars they earn for demonstrating good character.
These donations will enhance the learning in my classroom.
The opportunities are endless with the right resources. These are the right resources to make financial literacy come alive in my classroom and to make many dreams come true!
