Diversity and Civil Rights; A Literacy and Cooking Education

My students need diversity, civil rights, and bullying books. They also need a toaster oven with supplies, and inkjet labels to learn about world cultures through literacy and cooking.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What better way to learn about diverse cultures than to not only read about other countries, but also to cook our way around the world. My students would welcome not only the civil rights, diversity, and bullying literacy, but the oven and supplies for cooking.

A low income area would define the population of my elementary school.

A majority of these children would be classified as English Learners. My students come from good homes. However, most are on free meal plans, which includes both breakfast and lunch. The public school they attend is in a mostly safe residential area.

My Project

Using the materials requested, my students would not only be able to read around the world, but also to eat around the world. The literacy materials requested; civil rights, diversity, and bullying books and puzzles, would allow my students to read about world cultures. The bullying books would train my students to get along in the classroom. Additionally, the inkjet labels would be used to mark the reading comprehension levels for each book. Students will then be tested on each selection. The Toaster Oven and supplies would introduce my children to the many different foods of the world through cooking lessons.

Donors, your contributions to this project are important because, "We Are The World." The literacy materials requested in this project on civil rights, diversity, and bullying will help my children understand that we need to appreciate the differences of world cultures.

The cooking materials requested also add to this appreciation. Finally, it is hoped that my students will share what is learned in this project with their families and friends.
