Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Underage drinking poses serious consequences both to the individual and the community. I want my students to experience a first-hand simulation of the affects alcohol can have on the body so that they can understand the dangers related to underage drinking.
This project will support 11th and 12th grade students at a continuation high school.
There are many negative stereotypes associated with continuation schools, but I assure you that on this campus there is a strong culture of redemption. These students recognize that they have made mistakes in the past so they work hard every day to prove to their teachers, peers, and to themselves that they have changed and to get themselves back on the track to graduation.
My Project
My students need three pairs of Fatal Vision impairment goggles to simulate the effects of alcohol on motor skills, judgement and behavior. We know that underage drinking has serious consequences including mental, physical, financial, and legal damage. However, many teenagers dismiss the risks of underage drinking. I believe that adding impairment goggles to our curriculum will show students that drinking alcohol really does affect their motor skills and behavior. I hope that this lesson will have a memorable and lasting impact on each of my students.
By choosing to fund this project you will provide the tools to deliver a hands-on and memorable lesson about the serious consequences of underage drinking.
Changing attitudes and ultimately behaviors begins with awareness and education, so we thank you for your support.
