My Students

My students are challenged economically. Many come from deprived and chaotic households. This is the first dance class for many of them and the main creative outlet for some of our accomplished dancers.

This is a very eclectic group of students from an urban area in Michigan.

They have been largely unsuccessful in traditional classroom settings. This program pulls from their artistic interests to help them succeed in all areas of education. This particular class has developed into a performance company, which, for our school, is the first of this type. They have found a family in this small group and are showing much drive to attend school regularly, which has been a challenge for many in the past.

My Project

By acquiring a wardrobe rack, our students will be able to take pride in the beginnings of developing a professional-style company. This enables us to keep our wardrobe mobile and help protect costumes from damage, organized, and secure. Our plan is to gradually build a wardrobe that is flexible and deep.

This class has made a difference in the students in that this particular class has the best attendance in the school and students spend many hours in the studio rehearsing after school hours.

They take great pride in what they do.
