My Students

Do you love reading the paper or a magazine! It is still an exciting form of media even with all of the special effects games and movies have in them. I want the kids to see and know that reading is exciting. It helps that we can read and see the interactive website that is included!

I teach at a Title 1 school in South Carolina.

I have a wide range of students with different household incomes, ethnicity and varying reading levels. I have many children that do not get much exposure beyond there very own city. I live in an area very close to the beach, yet some have not ever visited the beach! Many have parents that work long hard hours and cannot expose their children to the many rich historical sites due to time constraints. There are many parents that don't know how to provide exposure due to their own lack of education or simply not realizing what they can do with their children to further their child's education. We do not have the funding for lots of field trips, but with Scholastic Classroom Magazine I can provide a window into the riches of the world close to us and very far away.

My Project

My kids are much like other kids that still think the bigger the blast the better! Not so! Reading about current events and feeling the paper in your own hands is still viable! Digital is fabulous, technology is fantastic, but I still want the kids to be exposed to print media that can be held in their own two hands. I like that Scholastic News gets that and inspires the kids to read AND see technology go hand in hand. Many of the children in my class do not have the exposure necessary to get a full and vibrant education. Many do not get to go on vacation and visit places rich in current and historical knowledge. With Scholastic Classroom Magazine they may not get to physically be there but this exposure is the next best thing! The kids will learn the culture of others and get to experience their own culture.

I firmly believe in Scholastic Classroom Magazine because I get a thrill every time I see the new pack of magazines I receive each month.

I love to see the topics and incorporate the concepts into my lesson plans. Scholastic Classroom Magazine is in line with the Common Core Standards, a very helpful and useful tool. I know when I get excited and pumped up about special things in my room my kids get into those very same things! Enthusiasm is catchy!
