Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Stop teen pregnancy! According the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, a total of 329,797 babies were born to women aged 15-19 years in 2011. We can lower this number by educating our children and providing experiences that will help them make better choices.
Our school is an eclectic collection of students that work hard to overcome obstacles and achieve success regardless of their personal situations.
78% of our students qualify for free/reduced meals, yet we have a zero percent drop-out rate and a 100% college acceptance rate. Our teachers take a personal interest in helping our students succeed not only academically but socially and emotionally as well. It is our goal to produce well-balanced, productive young adults that have the tools they need to be responsible, contributing members of society.
My Project
Being able to purchase the baby simulators will have a profound affect on my students' lives by allowing them to catch a glimpse into the world of parenthood. Students will be given the task of caring for their 'baby' for 48 hours during which time they will feed, burp, change, and nurture their baby. More importantly, they will potentially have to sacrifice personal time, activities, and sleep, to provide for their baby. The purpose of this activity will be to provide an experience for my students where they can learn that caring for a baby is a permanent, life-altering situation.
Teenage pregnancy is a huge problem.
By helping fund this project you will be providing education and experiences for at-risk youth to help them make better-informed decisions that will impact the success of their future. Thank You!
