This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you seen the YouTube videos of infants learning on tablets? My students haven't. They have no computers, no Internet, no tablets, no cameras, and no access to technology in school at all.

My 46 preschool students all come from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds, and the vast majority of them are from immigrant families.

Almost none of them have computers or access to technology at home. About 80% are English language learners, and they all receive free school lunch. They are also the smartest, kindest, most hardworking and deserving 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds in California!

My Project

My students need 4 tablets to help them with math, literacy, writing, science, technology, critical thinking and so much more! Research has shown that unlike computers, tablets offer students as young as three the opportunity to collaborate as they work and play. There are educational apps that will help my students achieve growth in phonics, writing, math, science, fine motor skills and critical thinking, not to mention technology. These tablets can be used for direct instruction in small groups or for student initiated work during free choice time.

The technology gap between rich and poor students is huge and growing, and it starts in infancy!

Babies from middle and upper class families grow up around technology that my students might not see until middle school, putting them at a huge disadvantage. Let's close the technology gap before it even begins, by giving my students the chance to learn through technology in preschool!
