Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classroom is a gifted and talented classroom where expressing their creativity is welcomed, while integrating math through brain games like Sudoku, logic problems, and puzzles. We have work stations where my students are given the opportunity to expand on art and math skills.
My students are academic driven scholars who model scholarly behaviors on a daily basis.
One of those behaviors they practice, on a daily basis, is exercising their intellect. I am at an academic campus where my students love to exercise their minds through advanced nonverbal expression through brain games. My 1st-5th grade students demonstrate their gifts and talents through creativity and divergent thinking which allows them to solve problems with careful planning and ingenuity. My students come in to my classroom ready to break out of established patterns of their everyday life, and are ready to wear their creative thinking hats to look at and solve problems in a different way.
My Project
I will be placing these items in workstations where all my 1st-5th grade students will be able to collaborate with their peers in homogeneous groupings. The Rubik's cubes, Q-bitz, and puzzles will focus on their critical thinking such as problem solving in creative ways, seeing patterns in relationships but not necessarily in ideas, and will help them display high levels of visual memory skills. With the Zentangles my students will be able to reflect complex thoughts through art. They will be able to express themselves without being intimidated because they will be able to incorporate unexpected or unusual points of view through art.
My 66 gifted and talented students that I serve come to me with a purpose of learning critical thinking skills so that they can become life long learners of the 21st century.
Through the use of these materials these 21st century learners will be allowed to exercise their little minds to problem solve, think differently, and creatively. I believe that we can never influence the world by trying to be like it. When children are given the opportunity to explore their creativity flourishes.
