This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Teaching only reading and math as core subjects is great to a certain degree. Today many of our students are not exposed to the arts and even some of the sciences. I want to make sure my students get a little bit of everything.

I teach in a first grade classroom.

In California and currently in our district our classrooms have 30 students. My students are wonderful kids that need a variety of teaching strategies. I know music will be a segment that when added to our curriculum will benefit every single child.

My Project

Adding music will help all my students enjoy the classroom. I have added art into many of the lessons and all my students became excited. I hear many of my kids hum and sing on their own, but bringing in structured music time will increase their enthusiasm for the classroom. The items I need to fulfill this are a CD/Cassette player and CDs with music my students will enjoy and learn from. It will also be beneficial to have posters and lyrics which will make it easier for my visual students.

I do not consider myself to be musical and much of it has to do with the lack of music as I was growing up.

I want to be able to provide my students with music from around the world. Starting with this project will help them be open to the music around them every day.
